On August 20, 2026, the GP Nord team once again travelled to Abragciems to spend an evening with the participants of “Ābolēni 2026”, a camp organised by “Sūrābele”, an association supporting families of children living with chronic illnesses.
This has already become a special summer tradition for us. GP Nord first visited “Ābolēni” several years ago, and every visit since then has brought something new. In the beginning, the main goal was to bring some extra joy to the children and organise a few fun activities. With every year, however, we have understood more clearly that the most important thing is simply to be there and help create a special day – to take part, play, help and spend time together.
This year, we arrived in Abragciems not only with the equipment needed for the activities, but also ready to get involved ourselves. The evening started with meeting everyone and getting things ready – setting up the sound and lighting equipment, preparing the inflatable castle, the ice cream station and everything else that would soon turn into one big evening of fun.
Children and their families could enjoy the inflatable castle, play with balls, join different games and simply spend time together. There was also dancing and plenty of other activities that brought children, parents and GP Nord team members together.
This Year’s Big New Feature – A Foam Party
The highlight and big new feature of this year’s evening was a foam party. The meadow was transformed into a huge playground filled with foam, where children, families and guests could dance, run around, play and simply enjoy the moment.
Nature added a little magic of its own. The wind, which at first seemed like just a pleasant part of the evening, suddenly became part of the show. As the party came to an end, it lifted the foam into the air and carried it across the meadow like huge, white snowflakes. For a moment, it was hard to tell where the foam party ended and nature’s own little miracle began.
After all the activity, it was time to slow down with some ice cream. GP Nord provided the ice cream and waffle cups, while fresh berries allowed everyone to create their own special dessert. And, of course, there was popcorn too.
One of the most important parts of “Ābolēni” is simply being together. The camp brings together children living with different health conditions and special needs, their brothers and sisters, parents, friends and people who want to support them. That is why, for GP Nord colleagues, this is not an event to simply watch from the side. It is about helping, encouraging, laughing, dancing and simply being there.
Looking back at the previous years, we can see how this cooperation has grown – from a simple evening with a few activities into a tradition where more and more of the GP Nord team takes part. In 2025 and again this year, we were also joined by our friends from the “Dzirnavas/GP Nord” basketball team.
A big thank you to “Sūrābele” for giving us the opportunity to be part of this special evening and for the important work they do for children living with chronic illnesses and their families.
And thank you to our colleagues who came along, got involved and gave their time and energy. We can bring an inflatable castle, ice cream, popcorn and sound equipment, but the most valuable things we can give are our presence, attention and time spent together.
