On 28 October, Rīga Stradiņš University hosted a joint meeting of the RSU Pulmonology and Dermatovenereology student scientific societies, “Atopy and Allergy: from Diagnostics to Immunomodulatory Therapy”. GP Nord was glad to support the event, which brought together around 40 medical students on site and around 30 more online.
Atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis and bronchial asthma are often linked and tend to develop in sequence, a pattern known as the atopic march. That is why cooperation between skin and respiratory specialists matters, and this meeting brought both perspectives together: from accurate diagnostics to modern immunomodulatory therapy.
The students were at the heart of the evening: four society members presented their work, and physicians Dr. Alise Balcere and Dr. Pauls Bērziņš commented on it and shared their practical, clinical perspective on how diagnosis and treatment work in everyday practice.

After the meeting we discussed next steps with the society leaders Marija Tīcmane and Vitālijs Zaharovs and agreed that students would benefit from hands-on sessions where, under physician supervision, they could learn to perform allergy skin prick tests and assess the reactions.
Thank you to society leaders Marija Tīcmane and Vitālijs Zaharovs, Dr. Alise Balcere, Dr. Pauls Bērziņš and all the students for an insightful evening! Supporting future doctors already during their studies matters to us, and we look forward to further cooperation.
