On November 6, the GP Nord team, together with friends and partners, attended the premiere of Dzintars Dreibergs’ new feature film “Escape Net” at Forum Cinemas. The evening carried a special atmosphere – the film premiered simultaneously in all cinema halls, and GP Nord was honoured to be among the very first viewers to experience this powerful and patriotic story.
About the Film
“Courage is needed beneath the basketball net – just as courage is needed in the fight for freedom. In Soviet-occupied Riga, the legendary women’s basketball team TTT rises to become one of the greatest in European history. Their captain, Dzidra Uztupe-Karamiševa, must find the strength to defeat those she is not allowed to beat and to face the pressure of the security services. For her, victories on the court mean more than sport – they are a lifeline and a hope of reuniting with her brother living in exile. Can basketball help fulfil this dream?”
Director Dzintars Dreibergs, whose previous film “Blizzard of Souls” became one of the most-watched films in Latvia, delivers another emotionally compelling story that connects past and present values.
The lead role is played by Agnese Budovska, whose performance has already been praised as one of the emotional anchors of the film. The story was created in close cooperation with basketball historians, former players and witnesses of the Soviet era to ensure authenticity and depth.
Premiere Evening
Before the screening, the GP Nord team had the opportunity to meet the filmmakers, actors and several of the historic TTT players whose real-life experiences inspired the film. Conversations, photos and first impressions set the tone for a meaningful evening – and the film truly lived up to it.
From the opening moments, the story gripped the audience. The emotions in the cinema hall were palpable, both during and after the film, as viewers reflected on a narrative that is at once beautiful, painful and deeply important to Latvia.
GP Nord CEO Toms Zeltiņš on the Film
“From the first minute to the last, the film holds your attention, moves you and makes you think. Agnese Budovska is simply outstanding – so much expressed through silence, presence and emotion. When the phrase ‘away from this damned country’ appeared on screen, it sent shivers down my spine. And when the word ‘Latvia’ sounded in the hall, it was hard not to cry. This film needs to be seen now – not ‘someday’. It deserves full halls, attention and conversations afterwards.”

GP Nord extends its gratitude to the entire film team for the opportunity to experience this unforgettable story. “Escape Net” is a film about courage, love, sport and humanity – a story that reminds us to remember, to value and to appreciate what we have today.
This evening will remain with us for a long time, and we wholeheartedly encourage everyone to see this film.
